Welcome to Hitchcock, South Dakota. A small rural community of 100 people. We invite you to visit our town through this web site or better yet visit us on Highway 28, five miles east of Highway 281.

In celebration of Hitchcock's Quasquicentennial the Hitchcock Community Planners
along with the city of Hitchcock decided that the heritage of the community
deserved preservation and recognition to insure the awareness and respect of
future generations for their forefather's sacrifices and strength. The
funding for this project came from community donations and the South Dakota Arts
Council. South Dakota Arts Council support is provided with funds from the
State of South Dakota, through the Department of Tourism and State Development,
and the National Endowment for the Arts. This mural will enrich the
downtown area as well as bring attention to the visual art form of painting,
which we hope will promote and encourage interest in our community.

NEW HOUSE FOR SALE IN HITCHCOCK
$68,500
The house is located on Maple Street on a nice sized corner lot. It has
1,000 sq. ft. on the main floor and
an unfinished basement with an egress window. The house faces south with a
view of nature's finest. There
is room to add a garage on the east end. The house was built at
Springfield Prison and is available for a limited
income person or family. The furnace, water heater, and air conditioner
are included. It is handicap accessible.
Don Gould Construction built the basement. It would be a perfect house for
a young family, a couple, or a single
person. It is only 3 blocks from a K-6 elementary school with small
classes and individual attention for students.
Hitchcock Community Planners purchased the home to provide a comfortable energy
efficient home for someone or a family which desires the safe and friendly
atmosphere of a small town. What a great place to raise a family!
If you have questions or wish to tour the house, call Phil Schwan 266-2178,
Paula Van Scharrel 266-2587, or Don Gould 266-2145. A first time home owner loan of $70,000 at 5.5% over 30
years would result in monthly payments of $397. If another $10,000 were
added on for floor coverings, washer & dryer, stove, refrigerator,
and some finishing in the basement, the payment would be $454. For a
mortgage other than first time home buyers, at 7%, payments would be $532. on
$70,000. You can plug in your own numbers, perhaps with down payment, on
websites such as www.americanbankandtrust.net.

Altoona Cemetery
The Altoona Cemetery Association would like to update it's financial position to
all concerned. Due to the recent low rates of return on funds in the
cemetery's perpetual fund, combined with the increased mowing costs, a negative
cash flow position has developed. Unless there is an increase in
money given to the Altoona Cemetery Association, some of the mowings may have to
be eliminated and the cemetery may not look quite as good all the time as it has
in the past.
There are and have always been some generous donors to the cemetery and we are
thankful for them. If anyone wants to make a gift, memorial or bequest to
the Altoona Cemetery Association, please contact one of the Board Members
listed
below or mail your gift to the secretary/treasurer:
David VanScharrel, President
Brad Bixler
Donald Gould
Ellen Kay Haigh, Secretary/Treasurer
